Patratu Thermal Power Station (840/770 MW)

Present Status- 150 MW generation. Unit no 6 is being lighted on 3rd June. With this generation will be 200 MW. Record Generation of 98MU achieved in May 08 which is highest since May 2003 will increase to 250 MW by July RECORD GENERATION SINCE INCEPTION FROM SIKIDIRI HYDEL POWER STATION.

NEW PROJECTS 6 X 600 MW OF UNITS AT THREE LOCATIONS VIZ

  • PATRATU- FROM BANHARDIH COAL BLOCK
  • GODDA- FROM URMA-PAHARITOLA COAL BLOCK
  • CHATRA- FROM MAURYA COAL BLOCK
  • REVIVAL OF 3X27.5 MW GAS TURBINES AT MAITHON, DVC.
  • SPEEDY REVIVAL OF CHANDIL HYDEL POWER STATION AND OTHER HYDRO PROJECTS.

Russian Units- Six Russian units commissioned 1966-1972 (36 to 42 years old) and have run 1.52 to 2.03 lach hours spares obsolete BHEL Units- Four BHEL units of 110 MW (24 to 31 years old) have run 65,000 to 95,000 hrs Three units (unit no. 1,2 & 7) generate 150 MW. Fourth unit (Unit no.6) synchronized on 06.04.08 and loaded up to 40 MW but due to high vibration in bearings and generator stator problem the defect has been attended. Boiler will be lit up on 03.06.08 for synchronization of the unit. Unit expected to generate 40 MW power since 5th June '08. Restoration of unit no. 4 (40 MW) is under progress and expected to generate 40 MW power by end of June '08. Overhauling of Boiler 6(ii) is under progress and to be completed by July '08 and will add additional generation of 30/40 MW. Restoration of unit no. 9 & 10 are under progress by BHEL and 220 MW additional generation expected by March 2009. NIT for restoration of unit no. 3 (40 MW) and unit no. 5(90 MW) have been invited. SRHP, Sikidiri (130 MW) Both units of 65 MW are available for generation but due to low water level in gatal sut dam, units are run intermittently for ½ to 1 hour from leakage water.

New projects

  • 1000 MW ± 20% thermal power plant at Patratu linked with Banhardih coal block (400 MT) allocated to JSEB. Order placed on Geology Department, GOJ for exploration of coal block. They started work on 04.04.08 but forcibly stopped by local Gram Sabha on 10.04.08 and inspite of persuasation by Chief Engineer (Banhradih coal block) work could not be started protection to the employs/officers required. R & R policy to be decided immediately.
  • 1000 MW ± 20% thermal power plant in Santhal Pargana region linked with Urma Paharitola coal block (437 MT) (district- Dumka and Pakur) allotted to JSEB. Five sites selected by CEA and CMPDI has been inspected in which two sites i.e. Priority (i) Rajaphokhar, Rajavita, Devipur district- Godda and priority (ii) Hathibathan district Pakur were found suitable for which feasibility study is to be made and then suitable site shall be finalized. As per report of Director, Mines, Bihar the coal block area is disturbed area.
  • 1000 MW ± 20% thermal power plant linked with Maurya coal block (210 MT) to be allocated to Jharkhand/JSEB under tariff based competitive bidding. PFC has been appointed consultant to decide developer. PFC has been asked to make feasibility study of five sites (land and water availability to decide suitable site).
  • To install new power projects 2850 crores needed as an equity share in four years And in 2007-08 Rs 750 crores. For development of coal block 500 crores needed in four years and 2007-08 Rs 75 crores. Total additional fund required in 2007-08 -Rs 825 crores

Gas turbine

During visit to DVC, Maithon on dated 25.05.08 Three sets of 27.5 MW each gas TG sets are available at DVC Maithon which has been closed for last five years. These gas TG sets were inspected by Chairman JSEB and matter discussed with DVC officials at Maithon on 24 & 25.05.08. One rotor require replacement, other rotor require repair and third was healthy as per report of DVC. BHEL was requested to send team to examine it. No new project is coming under JSEB/Govt. of Jharkhand within four years though load is increasing rapidly due to Rural Electrification and rapid industrialization. As such it is proposed that these unused gas turbine sets of total 87.5 MW may be procured or taken on lien from DVC and after repair, replacement, commissioned these may be used to meet emergency supply. These gas TG sets will remain installed at DVC Maithon but shall be used by JSEB as per agreement clauses between JSEB & DVC. Additional fund required- Rs. 50.00 Crores during 2007-08. BHEL team arrived on 02.06.08 and has gone to DVC, Maithon for inspection of Gas Turbine.
